Facebook Messenger is a brilliant move. Chances are, you won’t have most of your friend’s mobile number, so WhatsApp won’t be as effective. Chances are that you don’t have the primary email of most of your friends either, so that’s even worse.

But there’s a good chance that your friend is on your list of Facebook friends and even if they don’t use Facebook Messenger, they will have the main Facebook App or check Facebook even if they don’t use a smartphone.

Facebook Messenger has a good shot at replacing the de facto form of asynchronous communications in modern times at some point whether we like it or not. If they can build the initial critical mass first.
